Another Screen presents two very different films on hands – Maria Lassnig’s Palmistry (1974) and Ayesha Hameed’s A Rough History (of the destruction of fingerprints) (2015) – which are contextualised by a roundtable with participants Rachel Aumiller, Sam Dolbear, Nadine El-Enany, Amelia Groom, Clio Nicastro, Anja Sunhyun Michaelsen, and M. Ty., who discuss these works in relation to fate, work, pleasure, touch, and surveillance.
The second programme – EATING / THE OTHER (from Sunday) – takes its cue from this roundtable which ends on a discussion about women and eating; desire versus compulsion. The filmmakers of this second programme use food to explore ritual, modernity, national mythologies & censorship.
Includes work by Chick Strand, Joyce Wieland, Gloria Camiruaga, Ateyyat El Abnoudy, VALIE EXPORT and Patty Chang.
